Travel Jitters

Risk aversion grappled global stock markets on Friday, after the World Health Organization (WHO) warned of a new COVID-19 variant, called the B.1.1.529, which has been detected in southern Africa and has large number of mutations.

This came on the back of heightened pandemic fears, especially in Europe, and the Travel industry took a hit form the news.

Major airline companies such as German Lufthansa (LHA.de)and Australian Qantas (QAN.us), saw their stocks falling today.

Netflix (NFLX.us) & Spotify (SPOT.us)

The two companies collaborated to launch Netflix Hub on Spotify, whith soundtracks, podcasts and exclusive content on Spotify listeners, around popular Netflix shows such as Squid Game, Bridgerton, Money Heist and The Crown [1]

Squid Game recently became Netflix's biggest TV show ever [2], while The Crown had won 11 awards at September's Emmys, tied with the The Queen's Gambit for the top spot.

Xiaomi (XIAO.hk)

The Chinese smartphone maker disappointed markets with its third quarter results, that were released on Tuesday. It generated Revenues of more than RMB 78 billion, but the figure marked a slowdown compared to the second quarter.

XIOA.hk dropped as a result and ended the week with losses of more than 7%, having set 2021 lows (18.95).

XPeng (XPEV.us)

The EV maker reported solid financial results, with Total Revenue of RMB 5.719,9 billion, which beat its own estimates and represented a rise of 187.4% year-over-year and 52.1% quarter-over-quarter.

Investors liked the earnings report and sent XPEV.us to its highest level since January, before Thursday's US holiday.

Zoom (ZM.us)

The popular videoconference platform registered a 35% year-over-year increase in Revenues, which came in at $1.05 billion for Q3 FY2022, upgraded its outlook for the Full Fiscal Year 2022, as per the result announced at the beginning of the week.

ZM.us plunged after the financial results to new year lows , registering its worst day since late August and the post-Q2 earnings report collapse.

Nio (NIO.us)

Nio (NIO.us) celebrates seven years of life this month [3], as it was established in November 2014 and has some impressive achievements in this time. As of September 30, cumulative deliveries had reached 142,036, while making its entry into the European market as well [4].

On Friday, the Chinese EV maker announced a cooperation with Shell (RDSB.uk) to jointly construct and operate battery charging and swapping facilities, while Shell's charging network in Europe will also become available to NIO users. [5]
